One of the most popular amplifiers of all time is brought back to life in the Custom Champ 57. Renowned for its flexibility, ease of use and exceptional sound, it’s the classic sound heard on thousands of recordings. A wide variety of playable tones inhabit this hand-wired performer – from classic, clean cleans to naturally compressed overdrive that reacts remarkably well to guitar volume and dynamic changes in picking.
The Fender 5F1 circuit used in the ’57 Custom Champ has become legendary for its enhanced dynamic response and smooth tube overdrive when pushed. A 12AY7 tube preamp combined with a conventional 6V6 tube power amp and a 5Y3GT rectifier work together to generate this boost on demand. At full volume, this little wonder sings with the natural compression and rich harmonics of a power tube working at full power in a Class A circuit. The Weber Special Design 8″ 4 ohm alnico driver stays true to the classic Champ sound, compressing to create a fat sound at higher levels while more than ably reproducing the raucous tones found at the top of the amp volume control. The hand-wired circuit includes new-generation yellow coupling capacitors, chosen for their authentic vintage Fender sound, which coats the instrument in a sparkling, creamy way, with smooth highs and rounded mids.
Of course, this amp sounds great; it also retains Champ’s classic visual look – lacquered tweed, Chicken-Head knob, leather handle and 1/4″ inlets for low or high output instruments are all here. In the studio, the 5-watt design lets you explore the full range of tones available without overloading sensitive microphones (or your ears). Modernised components, hand-wired craftsmanship and classic circuit design combine to create the Custom Champ 57 de 57, a large-scale interpretive model. Includes protective cover.
